For a compact PC desk setup, the MOZA R5 Pro is our default pick because its 6 Nm base is small, the clamp is included and the bundle is complete. Thrustmaster T598 is stronger for PlayStation buyers. Logitech's RS50 System offers more 8 Nm headroom but costs more and makes the most sense on a genuinely solid desk.
- Your desk is solid and does not flex under load
- You want 5–8 Nm-class direct drive without a permanent cockpit
- You have a plan to stop pedals and chair moving
- Your desk is lightweight or hollow and wobbles
- You want double-digit torque at full strength on office furniture
- You are ignoring pedal stability and ergonomics

Yes, direct drive can work on a normal desk
You do not need an aluminium-profile cockpit to use direct drive. Current entry and mid-range bases are specifically sold with desk clamps or optional table-mount systems. The trick is choosing a torque level and mounting system that your furniture can actually handle.
A thin hollow desk, loose frame or lightweight folding table can flex and amplify vibration. A heavy wooden or metal-framed desk is a much better foundation.
Best overall for PC: MOZA R5 Pro
The R5 Pro is a particularly tidy desk option because MOZA includes the clamp, lists desktop mounting support and keeps the wheelbase compact. It is rated at 6 Nm with a 21-bit encoder and 1000 Hz USB refresh rate.
Six Newton metres is enough to feel like genuine direct drive without making a desk setup absurd. You can always reduce force strength in software, but you cannot make a weak base produce headroom it does not have.
Best for PlayStation: Thrustmaster T598
The PlayStation/PC T598 is officially compatible with PS5, PS4 and PC, and the complete package includes a clamping system. Its 5 Nm constant-torque Direct Axial Drive motor and Race Dash give it a very different personality from the MOZA.
The trade-off is physical size. At roughly 400 mm wide and 340 mm deep for the complete system, it asks more of a shared desk than the compact R5-class bases.
Best higher-torque desk option: Logitech RS50 System
Logitech's RS50 System is rated at up to 8 Nm direct drive with TRUEFORCE. The complete RS50 System includes the wheel and the accessories needed for table mounting, while the standalone RS50 Base requires the table clamp separately.
Eight Newton metres is usable on a desk, but this is where desk rigidity starts to matter much more. If your monitor shakes every time the wheel catches a slide, the extra torque is not helping.
What about the Logitech G923?
The G923 is easy to desk mount and remains convenient for console users, but Logitech lists it at up to 2.3 Nm with a dual-motor system. It is not direct drive. If you are specifically shopping for direct drive on PC, the newer R5 Pro, T598 and RS50-class products should be compared before buying a G923 at full price.
The pedal problem is bigger than the wheel problem
Desk users often focus entirely on whether the wheel clamp will hold. In reality, pedal movement and chair movement can be more annoying. A strong brake pushes the pedal set away from you and can roll an office chair backwards.
Useful fixes include placing the pedals against a wall, using a pedal tray, locking caster wheels or adding a compact wheel stand later. A load-cell pedal upgrade is excellent, but it needs a stable seating and pedal arrangement.
How much torque should you run on a desk?
There is no universal number. Start lower, make sure the desk stays rigid and increase force gradually. A 6 or 8 Nm base does not need to be run at maximum strength all the time.
For most desk racers, clean detail and a stable mount matter more than chasing double-digit torque figures.
Our picks
MOZA R5 Pro: best balance for PC, compact size and included clamp.
Thrustmaster T598: best fit for PlayStation users who want modern direct drive and a complete clamp-equipped bundle.
Logitech RS50 System: best if you want more torque headroom and a broader Logitech modular ecosystem, provided the desk is solid enough.
What to upgrade next
Once the wheel is stable, improve the brake and seating before buying a stronger wheelbase. Our load-cell pedal guide explains why, and the R5 upgrade guide gives a sensible order for a compact setup.

MOZA R5 Pro Racing Simulator
Compact 6 Nm base with clamp included.

Thrustmaster T598
Modern direct-drive-class route with licensed PlayStation support.

Logitech RS50 System
8 Nm class option for a genuinely rigid desk.
