For most R5 and R5 Pro owners, upgrade stability and braking first. Add a shifter or handbrake only when the cars you drive actually use them.
- Your starter bundle is already mounted securely
- You want upgrades that improve consistency before cosmetics
- You will change one weak point at a time
- You are buying every ecosystem accessory at once
- Your pedals or chair still move under braking
- You are upgrading torque before fixing ergonomics
Key specs & facts
| First priority | Pedal stability / brake quality |
|---|---|
| Immersion | Shifter / handbrake only if your cars use them |
| Mounting | Wheel stand/cockpit before much higher torque |
| Display | Position can matter more than extra wheel accessories |
1. Make the setup stop moving
Before buying more torque, make sure the wheel and pedals are mounted securely.
2. Upgrade the brake pedal
A load-cell pedal set is a logical next step because it makes braking more about repeatable pressure than pedal travel.
3. Add car-specific controls
An H-pattern shifter is excellent for manual road cars and historic racing. An analog handbrake is excellent for rally and drifting.
4. Only then think about more wheelbase
More torque can be worthwhile later, but it makes more sense once the cockpit and pedals are good enough to support it.
1. Stop the pedals and chair moving
The first upgrade may not be a MOZA product at all. A wheel stand, pedal tray, caster cups or a better seating solution can make every control feel more repeatable.
2. Improve the brake
Once the setup is stable, a stronger and more consistent brake is usually the biggest functional step. That may mean an upgrade kit or moving to a dedicated load-cell pedal set depending on budget.
3. Add car-specific controls
Choose an H-pattern shifter for manual cars, a handbrake for rally and drifting, or a different wheel rim when the cars you drive justify it. Accessories are best when they solve a real use case rather than filling empty mounting holes.
4. Only then think about more wheelbase
If you are clipping the R5 Pro regularly and the cockpit is rigid, moving to R9/R12 territory can make sense. Until then, the rest of the rig usually offers better returns.
A simple decision tree
If the pedals move, fix mounting. If the brake is stable but inconsistent, improve the pedals. If the driving position is uncomfortable, fix seating. If the controls are solid and you are missing a car-specific input, add the shifter, handbrake or wheel you actually need. Only when those questions are answered should stronger wheel torque move to the front of the queue.
Do not confuse ecosystem ownership with upgrade need
MOZA sells a broad range of compatible accessories, but compatibility is not a reason to buy all of them. A cleaner rig with three useful controls is better than a crowded rig full of devices you rarely touch.
Resale and staged upgrades
Buying in stages also lets you learn what bothers you before replacing it. That reduces duplicate spending and makes it easier to sell a starter component only when the upgrade solves a problem you can clearly describe.

MOZA SRP2 Pedals
The performance-oriented first upgrade when the pedal mounting is stable.

MOZA HGP Shifter
For historic, road-car and truck-sim driving where an H-pattern makes sense.

MOZA HBP Handbrake
Purpose-specific analogue control for rally and drifting.
