A clean start for new players: pick a playstyle, understand cyberware capacity, upgrade deliberately and stop hoarding every gun in Night City.

Quick answer

Choose a broad playstyle before spreading attribute points everywhere. Sell or dismantle excess loot, keep cyberware aligned with your build, use cover and mobility, and treat iconic weapons as long-term gear worth paying attention to.

DO THIS
  • Pick a playstyle and invest around it
  • Upgrade cyberware as part of the build—not as an afterthought
  • Use cover, movement and quickhacks together
AVOID THIS
  • Spread perk points across unrelated weapon styles
  • Buy every gun just because its number is higher
  • Ignore cyberware capacity and survivability

Pick a direction before specialising

You do not need a perfect build immediately, but it helps to decide whether you enjoy guns, blades, hacking, stealth or a hybrid. Attribute investment becomes more meaningful as higher-tier perks unlock.

Cyberware is part of the build

Cyberware is not just passive armour. Different implants affect movement, survivability, hacking, weapon handling and combat tempo, so visit ripperdocs as your capacity grows.

Do not carry an armoury everywhere

Regular loot piles up quickly. Keep weapons that suit your playstyle or have special value, then sell or dismantle the rest so inventory management does not become the actual final boss.

Use mobility

Movement upgrades can transform combat. Repositioning, breaking line of sight and attacking from better angles is often safer than trading damage in the open.

Choose a combat identity early

Decide whether you want to solve fights primarily with guns, blades, stealth, quickhacks or a hybrid with a clear main tool. Focused perk investment makes the build come alive faster than scattering points across every weapon category.

Cyberware is part of the build

Armour, mobility, operating systems and utility implants can change how a character plays as much as a weapon. Revisit ripperdocs as your capacity and level grow instead of treating cyberware as occasional flavour.

Use the city between missions

Side jobs and gigs are useful for money, equipment and learning the systems. They also give you room to test weapons and abilities before the main story raises the stakes.

Money is for capability, not collecting everything

Early eddies disappear quickly if you buy every small weapon upgrade. Prioritise purchases that unlock a real capability—important cyberware, a weapon that completes the build or something you cannot reasonably replace through missions and loot.

Survivability makes every build easier to learn

Mobility and damage are fun, but a fragile build gives you less time to understand enemy patterns. Health, mitigation and defensive cyberware can be valuable while you learn Night City's combat systems, even if the long-term build is aggressive.

Keep a few manual saves

Large RPGs reward experimentation. A manual save before major decisions, expensive purchases or a large build change gives you freedom to test without turning every choice into anxiety. It also protects against the occasional mistake or unexpected mission outcome.
